Fitness for riding

Riding fitness is best achieved by regular riding. You get fit for riding by doing it, and not overdoing it, REGULARLY. As with all things, little and often is better than a once a week binge. Remember that lasting fitness is built slowly. Your focus needs to be on regularity and integrating activities into your life – not seeing them as temporary additions.

When I came out to France I was not in a good shape. I was ill and had lost a lot of weight (5’7” tall and 8.5 stones). This had made me thin and weak. It took me about a year to slowly rebuild my physical strength. A slow but sustainable development of strength is what is required. Many people yoyo their weight with fad diets. They do not understand the root causes of their weight change and so are unable to manage their system. Use systems thinking to understand your weight and fitness and then manage it properly. We only have one body.
