The Learning Cycle

We cannot change the past but we should not ignore it. We should learn from it and apply this learning to prepare for the future. We act in the present. In this way our lives become a never-ending chain of learning (from the past), choosing (a direction for the future), acting (taking action consistent with this direction) and learning again. Planning, acting, learning…planning. As human beings we can share our learning and so we can learn from the past experiences of others too. Everyday you will learn something.

You’ll start to notice more if you make this learning explicit by capturing it. At the end of each day or at the start of a new one capture what you learnt in that day. Prepare to be amazed.

Active Learning

A Learning Rider strives to create a balanced mind and a balanced body.

Deep trust comes from wisdom. This is an in-depth understanding of what affects what – cause and effect – and it comes through “learning”. And learning comes through thinking. Thinking is a skill in it’s own right. Just as we can improve our bodily strength and suppleness so we can improve our mind.

If we see life as a stream of random events we are left feeling out of control and our only option is to react.

If we start to see patterns of events, we can start to modify our behaviour and prepare…we are no longer caught unawares but we still don’t feel in control!

When we understand the structure of cause and effect behind the patterns…then we know…and we can act confidently and in control.
